Group Camp 2008 - Hope Hill Scout Camp

16th to 18th May 2008

This year we have decided to return to a Scout Camp Site that we have not used for several years.

This site has a few on site activities and is situated in 25 acres of fields and woodland in the North Downs of Kent. Have a look at their Web Site to find out about Hope Hill.

The camp site is booked, the cooks team is raring to go and all that remains is the programme &  menu to be agreed upon and the chores divided.

With this in mind there is a Group Camp Meeting on Wednesday 9th April at Chelmsford Drive 8pm.

I have already spoken with a few cub and scout leaders and we will be concentrating on the cub/scout links for this camp – the beaver/cub link has always been strong but we seem to lose cubs in the move up to scouts.

Hopehill has few on-site activities so we will be providing our own props this year. Having said that we are trying to get away from the ‘eight craft bases’ model where all cubs and beavers make something to bring home. A lot of our cubs these days seem to have outgrown this and when you ask cubs what they like to do most at camp the answer is frequently wide games, lighting fires, cooking and eating – so why not give them what they want.  Gone are the days when they were fighting for places to get to camp, for some reason we now struggle to get enough cubs to fill the places.

So, a traditional scout-type camp with the added activity of Andy Rice’s charity hike – more details on the night.

The beavers will be invited on the Saturday as usual but we will have to fit them into the program to try out these older aged group activities that the cubs and scouts will be doing.

Please bring your ideas of activities to the meeting. I think everybody has enough details for the parents letter (I know Mercury and Jupiter have already got their numbers) but if anyone is finding this difficult or haven’t got all the details just email me and I will fill the gaps.

A parents guide and booklet will be available for download from the website once we have had our planning meeting and before the end of the half term break.
